Changing money in Uganda
Uganda's currency is the Uganda Shilling (USD 1 is approximately UGX 3,800). However, US Dollars are widely accepted for accommodations, activities, park entrance fees, and safari experiences. Make sure that the dollar bills are newer than 2003 and free of any tears.
Uganda operates largely on a cash basis: many lodges and restaurants do not accept credit cards, and park fees and permits must be paid in cash. It's advisable to always carry sufficient cash with you. While there are ATMs available in towns throughout the country, if you're heading to remote areas, it's best to bring enough cash to cover all your expenses.
